Israel should return to 1967 borders June 10, 2011
It’s refreshing to finally see some truth in the Daily Record
about the tragedy in Palestine. Aref Assaf speaks eloquently
about Paelstine (Guest commentary, “Nurturing Palestine in best
U.S. interest,” May 29) in measured, calm tones. But now, let us
wait to hear the wailing and “anti-Semite” canards that will
surely reverberate off the page in response.
The only country on earth dumb enough to put its financial and
citizens’ necks on the chopping block for the benefit of
“greater Israel” is the U.S. Let there be no doubt that all
terror attacks in the past and the future spring from our myopic
views of what we consider “our only friend in the Middle East.’’
I say, if we did not have Israel, we would not need them.
You know, our “friends,” the ones that place spies in our state
and war departments and use their enormous financial and
political resources to bend Congress to their will. Another $4
billion will head to Tel Aviv this year, no doubt. President
Barack Obama finally said what every other nation and the U.N.
believe: Go back to the 1967 borders and start over.
America went the distance to end apartheid in South Africa, but
we condone and support it in Palestine. Maybe it’s time to
reintroduce Resolution 242 and make it stick.
